Minutes of the Meeting of September
Minutes of the September General Meeting
Held at Kelly Dunagan's house, Wednesday, September 20th. 2000
Present: Kashif Khan, Asif Siddique, Kelly Dunagan, Philip Lynch, Lalit
Sharma, Julia Vann, Martin Greenidge.
Apologies: Mike Raher, Noel Emmanuel, Barry Harwood.
Meeting formally convened at 8.15pm
The minutes of the August meeting were accepted as read.
Matters Arising
Lalit had followed up with Dalton Wilson regarding the monies owed to
the SCCA. The $190 check had been cancelled, and the club was now clear.
It was noted that Tipu Saiful's application to join the club had been
accepted pending payment of dues. Since these had not been received, Lalit
suggested he should not be allowed to play further.
Kelly announced that a LASCA game was scheduled with BritDom for Sunday,
September 24th. Also, that the game scheduled against the Fox and
Hounds for Saturday 30th needed to be moved to the Sunday 31st.
Lalit asked if the dates when the West Vancouver team would be visiting us
had been settled. Julia said it was definitely for the Easter weekend April
15th.
Julia reported further that Mihir Gandhi had now officially taken over as the
SCCA Treasurer.
It should also be noted for future reference that we must submit two seperate
rosters at the freezing point of the season and no movement of players in any
direction will be allowed.
Secretary's Report
Julia reported that she had an e mail from Saurabh and Gary Whitta, from
Northern California, had sent an e Mail. Philip had details about Graham
Sinclair and would forward them to Lalit.
Julia apologized that only an e mail version of the newsletter was mailed out
in August.
Treasurer's Report
Opening balance 8/22 was $604.93. Our closing balance at 9/20 was
$877.93.
Lalit queried why the Casuals had not paid any game fees since 9th of July.
Asif replied that he had the cash for the games on 8/6, 8/26 and 9/17 and
would send them on. Philip also gave Lalit $68 as the balance from the
Pasadena playoff.
The Treasurer's report was proposed by Philip, seconded by Julia and carried
unanimously.
SCCA
Julia reported that "Friends" and "Eagles" had both dropped
out of the
league, having not paid their dues by August 18th. At the last meeting, both
Julia and Derek Rowland had complained about Atul Rai's overturning of the
disciplinary committee's decisions.
The division champions had been (1) Santa Barbara, (2) Anaheim 2 and (3)
Cal-Bel. Corinthians had finished third, and still stood a good chance of
promotion if Anaheim refused to go up (as happened last year). Casuals had
finished joint second in division three along with three other clubs. The
SCCA statisticians were working to settle which of the four should be granted
promotion, a task involving run rates, etc., etc.
Seemingly, umpires rights will change a little next year following a new
ruling by the ICC. Discretionary penalties of five runs can be awarded if, in
the opinion of the umpire, an offending team is seen to be timewasting,
showing dissent, or some such offense.
Lalit asked when the SCCA AGM was due; Julia replied that is was scheduled
for the third week of January 2001.
Captains' Reports
Corinthians: Noel was absent; but Kelly reported in his absence that
Corinthians had lost the Division 2 playoff to Pasadena - largely due to only
being able to field 9 men.
Casuals: Asif Siddique reported that Casuals had beaten Caribbean 2 by 42
runs; Vishal Rawate had taken 5 wickets, and Abdul Parekq had scored a
valuable 42. In the playoff, Casuals had lost heavily to a strong Britamer
side, although Kashif had bowled very well and taken 3 wickets.
Occasionals: 9 players were so far lined up for the BritDom game. Philip
promised to contact Graham and Gary. Philip also mentioned that David
Sentance was very keen for us to set up a friendly against Victoria before
the season ended; October 14/15 or
21/22 was mentioned as a possibility.
Banquet
Various possible sites in mid and south LA were being investigated.
Bylaw Changes: There followed some further discussion concerning the bylaw
changes, no vote took place.
The Next Meeting:
...would be at the Lamplighter Restaurant, Van Nuys Blvd., Van Nuys on
Wednesday, October 25th., at 7.30pm
Directions: 101 to Van Nuys Blvd. Travel north about three blocks and the
restaurant is on the left hand side, just before Burger King or one of those
places.
Meeting concluded at 10.35pm.
