Minutes of the March General Meeting
Held at Julia Vann's house, Monday, March 13th.
Present: Kelly Dunagan, Julia Vann, Masud Zaidi, Philip Lynch, Barry
Harwood.
Apologies: Noel Emmanuel, Lalit Sharma (birthday boy)

Meeting formally convened at 7.45pm.

Reading Of The Minutes
The minutes of the February 11th. meeting were accepted as published in
the newsletter.
There were no matters arising.

Secretary's Report
Julia reported that Atul Rai was sending on many prospective leads for
new players. Some phone calls had been made, but with no positive result
yet. The confusing issue about the SCCA banquet tickets, whereby all
clubs were responsible for 10 banquet tickets at $32, had still not
been resolved.

Treasurer's Report
Lalit sent his report via Philip. Again, only a small amount of
activity this month. February's closing balance of $153.09 (at 2/11) had
increased to $425.99; $170 from Kelly in lieu of website sponsorship,
Sandy Gage and Martin Greenidge's playing memberships, Julia's associate
membership, plus some small reclamation of monies owing from 1999 gave
us total deposits of $378.90. We had paid a $100 deposit for the golf
tournament. Lalit reiterated we still needed to reimburse Kelly for the
$200 LASCA dues so, in his words, "it's time to push for dues!"

SCCA Directors Report
Julia reported that the last SCCA meeting was a long, 2 3/4-hour
marathon regarding finances -- which in the event was fruitless anyway. As
yet, no decision had been made regarding the number of teams or the
format of this year's competition, although the most likely would be 12
teams, three divisions, 11 games total (each team plays each other
once), top 2 teams promoted, bottom 2 relegated. In addition, an Adolph
Shirley Memorial Trophy series (25-over matches), and "All-star"
tournament (involving 2 players from each team) and the reinstatement of
the Williamson which was canceled last year. A controversial issue had
arisen whereby Colts and Century wanted to merge into a single unit (to
allow them to swap players) BUT to keep both ground allocations AND only
pay for one 'membership.' Anaheim 2, who finished second in Division 2
last year, decided they did not wish to be promoted after all. Some teams, in
contravention of SCCA rules, are also supposedly without grounds this
year.
Unfortunately, the SCCA management is out of its depth with the scale of
the issues with which it has to deal. Philip pointed out that the
decreased number of league games would cut revenue for both the SCCA and
each member club. Kelly suggested that the best solution to the SCCA's
woes would be to appoint an independent operations commissioner, whose
task was to coordinate all general operations of the league, leaving the
'committee' to deal with cosmetic details and general public relations.

Captains' Reports
Corinthians: Noel was absent due to work commitments. Julia reported in
his stead that Noel had two particular new prospects to approach and had
asked for 2 application forms.
Casuals: Alex was absent. Kelly gave a match report from the recent
fixture against British and Dominion, which was lost by 8 wickets.
Casuals scored 126 in 30 overs, and at one point had B&D at 48-2, but
couldn't make any further breakthroughs. He felt there were no
particular first-team prospects in the team that day.
Occasionals: Kelly announced that he, Philip and Lalit had attended the
LASCA AGM and that the Occasionals' application to join the social
league had been accepted; see report later under "New Business."

New Business
The Victoria Game had been moved to Sunday March 19th at Balboa High School.
The W.G.Grace Game was set for April 23rd. A discussion followed as to
whether we should hold a party after the game OR, for a change, perhaps
we could visit a restaurant for a team dinner on the previous evening.
Special invitations had been extended to Bill Armstrong and Graeme
Robinson; Trevor Roper would also be contacted.

Membership applications: An application was received from Ahmer Naushad
via Alex Khan. Ahmer didn't play in the B&D game, so it was felt that he
was an unknown quantity and would need to be contacted and seen at nets,
etc.

Web Site: Lalit has now finished the site: www.corinthiancricketclub.com
Masud suggested we could make the format a little more sophisticated
with time, adding frames and so on, especially as we now have 50mb
available. Kelly planned to add more and more photographs (including
those from the B&D game).

LASCA: We were now officially members of LASCA. The league has 8 teams,
so 7 games were in prospect, plus a knockout competition, so perhaps 8-9
games in all. This would of course mean an extra $8-900 in revenue from
match fees. Matches are generally at Erwin Park in Encino.

Phoenix Tour: The trip to Phoenix, Arizona, was a great success, despite
a few weather problems. It was agreed that the only difficulty was in
the logistics of transporting everyone from the airport. we can do this
better next time. Phoenix are going to be sending a team to play a
return fixture on May 7th.

San Francisco Tour: Planning would begin soon.

Next club meeting to be held at:
Lamplighter Restaurant, Monday, April 10th.
5043 Van Nuys Blvd.
