Came to order: 7:45 pm

Minutes of previous AGM: Recording Secretary Barry read the minutes of the January 29, 2004 meeting. Acceptance was Proposed by Krish and Seconded by Masud, passed without dissent.

Matters arising: Questions were raised concerning the Presidents voting protocol, and the requirement for paying the next year’s annual Dues before being allowed to vote. Barry explained that the President is only allowed to vote to break a tie, a longstanding Bylaw, and that, after experiencing situations in the past where members voted at the AGM, then left the Club before the start of the following season, the Bylaws were change to prevent uninterested parties from influencing the election results.

Report of the (Corresponding) Secretary: Lalit apologized for his lack of diligence during the past year in the publishing of Newsletters. He reported that although he had received some Proxy votes, none were accompanied by 2005 Dues, and therefore would not be counted in the elections.

Report of the (Recording) Secretary: Barry had nothing to report, except apologizing for missing several monthly meetings. He would be more than willing to stand down if anyone else was willing to takeover.

Report of the Treasurer: Masud provided a comprehensive typed Annual report, thanks Masud. In summary, financially 2004 was not a good year. With respect to the Treasurer’s Budget for 2004 (after discounting the Annual Banquet which had not yet been held), the Expenses increased by $300, due to an increase in SCCA dues, SCCA fines and umpiring fees. Income was reduced by $750, different numbers of Full and Student members than were budgeted. The net affect was a negative $1050 in the Club General fund. Fortunately, the Corinthian Development fund, which gained from the golf tournaments (thanks Lalit), and other donations, was able to make up the deficit.

The Treasurer’s proposed Budget for 2005 projected an increase of over $1000 in Expenses, with a comparable increase in Income, using a new combination of Dues/Game Fees, to balance the budget.

Questions were asked regarding the SCCA fines and responsibilities. The fines were for missing umpiring assignments (2X), and not submitting scoresheets, both of which are the respective Captain’s responsibility. To a question on LASCA fees increase, a new game fee was imposed by LA Parks in 2004 for the use of Erwin Park, so the cost of every game is now shared by the teams playing.

Regarding the proposed budget, it was explained that the increase in umpiring fees was caused by the use of more ‘certified’ umpires, who command higher fees, about which we have no choice. The new proposals for Dues and Game Fees will be tabled until the January 2005 meeting.

Acceptance of the Treasurer’s report was Proposed by Sandy and Seconded by Lalit, passed without dissent. Masud was given a round of applause for a great job.

Report of the Captains:

Corinthians Captain Nadeem and Vice Captain Skeikh Mahmud were absent. Imran reported that the Corinthians season was relatively successful, just missing promotion in the league, and reaching the Playoff final. This was due to a good overall team effort. The report was accepted without dissent, and followed by a round of applause for the Corinthians.

Casuals Captain Phil reported that the results were disappointing, but, in spite a lot of new members, there were many excellent individual performances. But the competition was much stronger, as the league becomes stronger each year. All team members gave a good effort and Phil was proud of them.

The report was accepted without dissent, and followed by a round of applause.

Occasionals Vice Captain Jim Read reported that we ended up fairly even on results, but had a good time anyway. Barry suggested that more games, such as each team playing the others twice (home and away), would give fewer long breaks between games and improve the interest in, and possibly the standard of the cricket. Next year’s Captain will take it up with the LASCA board.

The report was accepted without dissent, and followed by a round of applause.

Report of the President: President Phil felt there had been considerable strengthening of the Club this year, and we were well respected in the SCCA. He was happy to report that the Corinthians had an excellent year, coming 3rd in the League, finalists in the Playoffs, quarter finals in the Shirley Cup. The team spirit was outstanding, and he felt Nadeem and Mahmud had done a great job of leadership.

The Casuals and Occasionals have had enjoyable seasons, which is what the Corinthian Cricket Club is all about. Lead by Phil the Club members gave themselves a round of applause.

Phil thanked the Executive, Masud for a great job with the budget and finances, Lalit for his support, and especially  for arranging the very successful golf outings, Kelly and Barry have helped keep the Club on track with their emails, opinions, and help with decision making. The Captains and Vice Captains all did a great job, round of applause.

Phil made a special mention of Shani who had been selected for the USA under–19 team. With the support of the Club we expect him to play for the full USA side soon.

Phil announced that he was standing down from the Presidency, but will still be making his (major) contribution to the Club as the immediate Past President. He is anticipating continued improvement in the Cub next year, and is proud of what he has been able to achieve.

The President’s report concluded with a round of applause by all present for a job well done.
